THE WEDDING PRESENT
Peel Sessions
Strange Fruit

Some bands' Peel Sessions are a revelation, stripping away the over-production of their records to reveal something different underneath. The Wedding Present's aren't. The Wedding Present are pure face value, which is probably why John Peel likes them.
There are eight songs by the classic Wedding Present here, uncomplicated angst- filled thrashes with titles such as 'Why Are You Being So Reasonable Now?' and there are four from their October 1990 attempt to re-invent themselves with more complex, both softer and noisier stuff like 'Dalliance'. This is apparently Peel's favourite Wedding Present sessions and you can see why. It took guts to mess around with a successful formula, even if, in the end, they never quite escape their limitations. ***
